Site Plan

Construction and phasing

The works to demolish and construct the new school are to be planned to ensure safety, minimise environmental impact, and minimise disruption to the functioning of the school.

In the first phase, temporary accommodation will be sited on the playing field to the North to allow the bridge, the old 6th form/trust, art/drama, foodtech/DT blocks to decant into the temporary accommodation. The bridge, the old 6th form/trust, art/drama, and foodtech/DT blocks will then be demolished to allow for the new block to be built on their footprint.

Once the new block is constructed the remaining blocks including the 2 storey/classroom, boiler/chimney, main hall/3 storey classroom and science blocks will be demolished in a staggered manner starting with the main hall/3 storey classroom block and ending with the science block to ensure that indoor sport provision is not impacted until the new Sports Hall is built.

A temporary playground is to be provided to the east of campus when the new teaching block is  in operation.

The arrangement of the proposed development allows the school, alongside the All Weather Pitch (AWP) and Yarborough Athletics area, to remain operational during the construction period to ensure there is minimal disruption to the curriculum.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE?

The proposed redevelopment of Lincoln Castle Academy will likely be undertaken across two phases of construction to allow the school to operate during the construction works. The overall project is anticipated to be approximately 3 years.

Who is building the school?

Bowmer + Kirkland have been appointed as Main Contractor by the Department for Education.  They are very experienced in the construction and development of schools. You can see some examples on their website here.

How safe will it be during construction?

The active construction site will be securely screened and boarded to ensure no access is available to unauthorised personnel. Pupils’ ability to access other parts of the school site which remain in use during the redevelopment is of paramount importance, as is their safety and wellbeing. Bowmer + Kirkland’s Health and Safety Policy may be found here.

What will it look like?

More information about the design of the teaching block, sports hall and other works will be available at the public consultation.
